What is Tox (Botox & Dysport)?

How Does Botox & Dysport Work?

Botox and Dysport are two of the most popular cosmetic treatments offered at medical spas in Salt Lake City and around the world. Both are injectable treatments that temporarily reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face.

Botox is made from botulinum toxin type A, which is a protein that targets the muscles responsible for creating wrinkles. By blocking the nerve signals that cause these muscles to contract, Botox can effectively smooth out lines on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes (crow's feet).

Dysport, on the other hand, is made from a similar protein called abobotulinum toxin A. Like Botox, Dysport works by temporarily paralyzing the muscles that create wrinkles, but it may spread more easily and have a faster onset of action compared to Botox.

Both Botox and Dysport are safe and effective treatments that can be administered by a qualified medical professional, such as a licensed physician. The injections are quick and virtually painless, with minimal downtime or recovery required.

One of the key benefits of Botox and Dysport is their ability to produce natural-looking results that can last for several months. Patients typically see a reduction in the appearance of wrinkles within a few days of treatment, and the effects can last for up to four to six months.

Who Is An Ideal Candidate For Tox (Botox & Dysport)?

Botox and Dysport injections are popular treatments for patients who want to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on their face. These treatments can be used by a wide range of patients, from younger patients who want to prevent the formation of wrinkles to older patients who want to reverse wrinkles that have already formed.

Younger patients who are in their 20s or 30s may choose to use Botox or Dysport preventatively, to slow down the formation of wrinkles caused by repetitive facial movements. By using these treatments early on, patients can help delay the onset of visible signs of aging, which can help them maintain a more youthful appearance for longer.

Older patients who are in their 40s, 50s, or beyond may choose to use Botox or Dysport to reverse wrinkles that have already formed on their face. These treatments can help smooth out lines on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes, giving patients a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

Overall, the ideal candidate for Botox or Dysport injections is someone who is in good health and has realistic expectations for the outcome of the treatment. It's important to note that these treatments are not a permanent solution to wrinkles and fine lines, and results can vary depending on the patient's age, skin type, and other factors.

If you're considering Botox or Dysport injections, it's important to consult with a qualified medical professional who can evaluate your individual needs and help you determine if these treatments are right for you. At our medical spa, we offer personalized consultations to help our patients achieve their desired outcomes and feel confident in their appearance.

How Much Botox Will I Need?

Every persons dosage varies based on their individual anatomy, their age, and their desired results. Males usually require more than females. People with stronger muscles may require more. Our clinic values high quality results above anything else. We believe every injectable patient deserves to have the best quality results regardless of the factors that affect the number of units needed. For this reason, all of our Tox treatments are all priced by area. We have simple flat rates for each area so you can be confident you are getting the best possible results. It also means that you never have to worry about getting over diluted product. Every one of our treatments includes a complimentary two week touch up visit.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

First, the physician will evaluate the patient's medical history, discuss the desired results and potential risks of the treatment, and assess the patient's facial anatomy to determine the appropriate injection sites. Next, the physician will clean the treatment area with an antiseptic solution and may apply a topical anesthetic or ice pack to minimize discomfort during the procedure. Using a very fine needle, the physician will inject small amounts of Botox into the targeted muscles in the face. Depending on the number of treatment areas, the procedure may take anywhere from a few minutes to half an hour to complete. After the injections, the physician may apply gentle pressure to the treated area to prevent bleeding or swelling. Patients can typically return to their daily activities immediately after the procedure, although they should avoid rubbing or touching the treated area and follow any post-procedure instructions provided by their physician.

The procedure is virtually painless, as a small needle is used to deliver the Botox to the correct location.

RECOVERY PROCESS

Immediately following the procedure, patients may experience some mild swelling, redness, and bruising around the injection site, which typically subsides within a few hours to a few days. Patients should avoid rubbing or touching the treated area for at least 24 hours to prevent the spread of the toxin. It is recommended to avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol consumption, and exposure to extreme heat or cold for the first 24 hours following treatment. The full effects of Botox usually become noticeable within a few days and can last up to several months, depending on the individual's metabolism and the amount of toxin injected.

I came in for a consultation and the staff was super welcoming! I wasn’t even through the front glass doors yet before I was greeted with a warm smile! Dr. Ward and the staff made me feel welcomed and appreciated. My nose is my biggest insecurity and Dr. Ward was patient and answered all of my questions and concerns. He was realistic about what to expect and didn’t force what he thought was a “better look” on me. He really listened and that’s super important to me. Thank you to everyone and Dr. Ward!

Can Botox Be Used To Treat Lips?

Botox and Dysport can be used to treat lip wrinkles (sometimes called lipstick lines or smoker’s lines). It is not an FDA approved use; however, it has been used safely for many years. The main complication is overdoing it and causing weakness of the facial muscles decreasing your ability to smile or causing asymmetry of the smile. However, Botox or Dysport will NOT give you fuller, bigger lips. To achieve this goal, fillers (e.g., Restylane, Juvederm, etc.) or implants are necessary.
